The American Collection
In the early 20th Century around 300 golfers from the small town of Carnoustie, Scotland, emigrated to America and were instrumental in the development of the game of golf in the USA. When the PGA of America was founded in 1916 nearly half of the 82 professional members came from Carnoustie.
With the gradual evolution of the game, colourful Pros such as Walter Hagen and Gene Sarazen added much to its public image and popularity. From Bobby Jones’ golfing Grand Slam in 1930, Ben Hogan’s heroic comeback, the emergence and rivalry between Palmer, Nicklaus and Player, golf once again captured the imagination of sports fans everywhere. By 1986 golfers in the
USA numbered 20 million.
Tiger Woods won his first Major at Augusta in 1997 and is regarded by many as the finest golfer of all time, taking golf on to a new level of public awareness and inspiring a new generation, not only in the USA but around the world.
Featured in this collection of American golf art prints are the legendary names of Augusta, Pebble Beach, Torrey Pines and Winged Foot. Also the magnificent Desert Mountain, the award-winning Lake Of Isles and the Vermont Collection of Burlington, Country Club of Vermont and Sugarbush.
